WYD 2008 is the entity created by the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney to organise WYD08. We report to the Vatican, via the Pontifical Council for the Laity, which is the official Vatican body for the organisation of World Youth Days.

Local Organising Committee

The WYD08 Local Organising Committee (LOC) was established early in 2006 to provide recommendations and advise on the organisation of WYD08; promote WYD08 and provide practical assistance in addressing planning and logistical challenges.

The LOC has 21 members, with representatives of the Sydney Archdiocese, Australian Bishops, Federal and NSW Parliaments, Australian youth, business and community representatives

Advisory and Consultative Committees

The WYD08 team has established a number of consultative committees to assist consultation and engagement with all elements of the Church and community in Australia.

There are four committees representing the Church:

• Education Committee ,
• Diocesan Youth Ministry Committee and the
• Indigenous Committee .
