Persons who are deaf or hearing impaired.
  • WYD08 will aim to reduce where possible any communication barriers by providing sign-language (AUSLAN and International Sign Language only) at the major events and at several other pre-selected venues (for Catechesis) during the WYD08 week. Hearing loops are also planned in many enclosed areas.
  • Sign-language will also be provided at a pre-selected Catechesis site.
  • At the major events, sign-language will be projected on some screens. Registered deaf pilgrims will be allocated to areas where these screens are positioned.
  • A signing priest will be offering signed reconciliation and will be signing mass in a pre-selected venue following Catechesis. Details of this venue will be provided closer to WYD08.

  • We would be grateful if you could inform us of your preferred sign-language and whether you or your group is accompanied by your own sign-language interpreter, particularly where your sign-language is not AUSLAN or International Sign Language. This will assist us in allocating you to the appropriate Catechesis site.
