The Catholic Church is committed to complying with legislative obligations associated with child protection in all areas of involvement. These obligations extend to appropriate recruitment practices, probity checking and training in the care and safety of children and young people, as well as compliance with duty of care and natural justice responsibilities when matters arise.
WYD 2008 (the company) recognises that there is a clear and unequivocal duty of care to pilgrims and WYD 2008 workers alike. WYD 2008 acknowledges that there are differing legislative responsibilities applying to the various states and territories throughout Australia and overseas.
The procedures are designed to assist all involved to ensure that WYD08 (the event) are:
Inclusive
Welcoming
Personally fulfilling
Faith-enhancing
Safe
Supportive
The policy outlines strategies for establishment and maintenance of a culture which is supportive of children and young people and ensuring that all involved are treated fairly in accordance with community expectations.
Included in the document are process details for contacting WYD 2008 Child and Young Person Protection Officers in the event of an issue arising. Their role is to provide support and advice for staff and volunteers should it be required. Further process documents outlining the responsibilities of different workers and process for reporting will be attached in the near future.
