World Youth Day 2008 breaks bread with Tip Top this Easter - Hot Cross Bun Drive supports 700 Aussie schools & parishes

Tip Top has joined World Youth Day Sydney 2008 (WYD08) just in time to help celebrate the Easter period in true Aussie style - with Hot Cross Buns!

The baked goods specialist is supporting the fundraising activities of 700 local schools and parishes by offering a special Easter Hot Cross Bun Drive in conjunction with WYD08.

All profits raised from the sale of the 'holy breads' will go to the groups' WYD08 fundraising efforts to help send fellow students, pilgrims from neighbouring countries, or remote Australian indigenous communities to Sydney for WYD08 in July.

"What better way to evoke the feelings of goodwill that Easter entails, than through Australian stomachs!" said WYD08 Chief Operating Officer Danny Casey.

"We are thrilled to be celebrating the joyful spirit of Easter with Tip Top, by helping Australian communities on their way to World Youth Day," he said.

Tip Top will deliver the Hot Cross Buns to schools between 11-14 March.

"As a supporter of WYD08, Tip Top hopes that this initiative will help many Australian and international pilgrims to participate in this historic event," said Serge Costi, Assistant Brand Manager, Tip Top Bakeries Australia.

Sydney will host the 23rd World Youth Day from 15 - 20 July this year. Organised by the Catholic Church but open to all, WYD08 will mark the first visit by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to Australia.

Only 145 days to go to WYD08!
