World Youth Day partners with Corrs Chambers Westgarth

World Youth Day Sydney 2008 (WYD08) organisers have confirmed one of Australia's leading law firms, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, as the official provider of legal services for the event.

Corrs is providing two secondees to WYD08, assisting in the drafting of contracts, negotiations and providing ongoing legal advice on a vast range of matters.

Organised by the Catholic Church, but open to all, World Youth Day 2008 will be the largest event Australia has ever hosted, involving an expected 125,000 visitors from more than 170 countries, an estimated 8,000 volunteers, and hundreds of venues around Australia.

Corrs currently acts for many of Australia's top companies and is regularly involved in major transactions of national and international significance.

"World Youth Day is privileged to be partnering with such a prestigious law firm with extensive global credentials and renowned professionalism," said Danny Casey, Chief Operating Officer, World Youth Day 2008.

"Their proficiency and responsiveness are second to none," he said.

The law firm counts among its major clients, 60 of the ASX top 100-listed companies and has been involved in a number of major events including Melbourne International Arts Festival and World Refugee Day in NSW and Queensland.

"World Youth Day 2008 is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Sydney to open its doors to the youth of the world and offer them a unique experience in celebration of their faith," said John Denton, Corrs Partner and CEO.

"Corrs Chambers Westgarth is honoured to provide legal services for this exciting, multi-faceted event to help ensure it runs as smoothly as possible and is a great success from an organisational perspective, but more importantly realised in the experience of our young visitors", he said.

More than 500,000 people are expected to take part in the event from 15-20 July this year, which will also mark the first visit to Australia by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
